A devastating Kasoa flood tragedy has struck the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region, where a 12-year-old boy, identified as David, was swept away by the Okludu River after heavy rainfall at Kasoa American Town on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses told Adom News that the heartbreaking incident occurred when David attempted to pick up his younger siblings from school following the downpour. According to reports, his slippers slipped into a gutter, and while trying to retrieve them, he fell into the fast-moving river and was quickly carried away by the strong floodwaters.

As of now, the whereabouts of the boy remain unknown, and search efforts are still ongoing.

The Ewe Chief of American Town, Togbui Amamasor, described the moment as tragic and helpless, recalling how residents stood powerless as the floodwaters swept the young boy away.

Meanwhile, the Assemblyman for the American Town Electoral Area, Shaddrack Boakye Yiadom, confirmed that search operations continued late into the night but, unfortunately, yielded no positive results.

Authorities and residents in the area have been urged to exercise extreme caution around flood-prone zones as the rainy season intensifies, to prevent further Kasoa flood tragedy incidents.
