Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, the Member of Parliament for Karaga, has made some serious allegations against Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. He claims that the Finance Minister manipulated economic data to paint a false picture of the economy’s state when the current administration took over.

Specifically, Dr. Amin Adam takes issue with the figures presented by the Finance Minister, saying they were deliberately altered to create a misleading impression of economic distress. He points out that the Minister quoted a fiscal deficit of 8.3% and a primary balance deficit of 3.7%, which Dr. Amin Adam calls “cooked figures”.

According to Dr. Amin Adam, the government introduced a new line item called “unreleased claims” worth GHC 49 billion to distort fiscal data and exaggerate the reported deficit. He insists that his government left behind a strong economy, with trade balances and current account balances in surplus, which contradicts the Finance Minister’s claims of a “broken economy”.

Dr. Amin Adam has vowed to interrogate the data and reveal the actual figures to Ghanaians. He also warned against celebrating the announcement of scrapped taxes, saying most of them were never implemented in the first place.
