The National Peace Council (NPC) has identified 36 critical hotspots across Ghana where electoral violence could erupt during the December polls. These hotspots include areas in Kasoa and other regions, where tensions are running high ahead of the elections.

Accordingly to George Amoh, Executive Secretary of the NPC, the council has selected 26 of these hotspots for special attention. The NPC will engage with parliamentary candidates and electorates in these areas to promote political tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

The move is part of a broader effort to prevent electoral violence and ensure a peaceful voting process. The NPC has also developed guidelines against intemperate language during the election period, in collaboration with the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and Media Foundation for West Africa.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has also released a list of 4,098 flashpoints across the country that could experience electoral violence. The list will guide tactical arrangements and deployments across the country’s 16 regions.

These efforts demonstrate the commitment of the NPC, the police, and other stakeholders to ensuring a peaceful and credible election process in Ghana.
