Isaac Adongo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has defended Sammy Gyamfi after backlash over a viral video. The footage shows Gyamfi distributing US dollars at a private event, drawing sharp criticism from the public.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, May 14, Adongo—also a Bank of Ghana board member—acknowledged the incident as a mistake.
“Sammy Gyamfi should know his actions matter. He’s a public figure, and President John Mahama respects how Ghanaians feel about such things,” Adongo said.
He continued, “It was an error. He made a mistake, and I believe he will grow from it.”
Adongo pointed to Gyamfi’s strong stance against the NPP in 2024. He believes that’s why critics are quick to attack him. “Given the work he did against the NPP, it’s no surprise they’re targeting him,” he noted.
Despite the incident, Adongo stressed the need to support young politicians who show promise.
“He has a bright future. We shouldn’t throw away the baby with the bathwater,” he concluded.
