The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has strengthened its partnership with the Department of Urban Roads under the Ministry of Roads and Highways to improve Ghana’s emergency care system.

The initiative aims to expand NAS operations by setting up ambulance stations at key interchanges across the country, starting with the Flower Pot Interchange in Accra.

A high-level NAS delegation, led by Dr. Patrick Inkoom-Colbelson, Acting Deputy Chief Executive Officer; Dr. Ali Baba Awini, Acting Director of Operations; and PAEMT Francis Nkebi Annan, Head of the Fleet Unit, paid a courtesy visit to the Department of Urban Roads to discuss the plan.

During the meeting, Dr. Inkoom-Colbelson and Dr. Awini outlined NAS’s mandate and highlighted the importance of efficient pre-hospital care in saving lives during emergencies.

Both parties inspected available spaces within the interchange and agreed that Bay 3 would serve as the most suitable location for the new ambulance station.

Dr. Inkoom-Colbelson also suggested introducing emergency response training for staff of the Department of Urban Roads to strengthen their readiness during critical incidents.

The Director of Urban Roads commended the initiative, describing it as a forward-thinking collaboration that will improve public safety. He encouraged NAS to take immediate steps to occupy the identified space and requested a formal letter detailing the technical requirements for the project.

This ambulance service collaboration marks another milestone in NAS’s mission to bring lifesaving emergency medical services closer to the public by integrating ambulance stations into major transport networks across Ghana.
