Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has responded after a U.S. court reduced the defamation fine against MP Kennedy Agyapong from $18 million to $500. Anas emphasized that the case was never about money, but about clearing his name and defending the truth.
The court granted Agyapong’s motion for remittitur, which significantly lowered the jury’s original award. While the judge agreed that Agyapong defamed Anas, he ruled the damages were excessive.
In a press statement, Anas’s investigative firm, Tiger Eye P.I., stressed the importance of the court’s findings. “Today, the judge granted Kennedy Agyapong’s motion and reduced the award to $500. This means the court confirmed the defamation but found the amount too high,” the statement said.
Anas expressed relief that the trial did not validate any of Agyapong’s accusations. “I am happy that not a single allegation was proven against me, even though Kennedy Agyapong had every chance to do so,” he stated.
He also reaffirmed Tiger Eye P.I.’s mission. The group remains focused on justice, not financial rewards.
