A disturbing incident in Ankaase, a community near Bekwai in the Ashanti Region, has triggered the performance of Ankaase cleansing rituals after a man admitted to having an affair with his wife’s younger sister. The revelation has left residents in shock and drawn condemnation from traditional authorities.
According to community sources, suspicions about the immoral relationship had been circulating for weeks until the man finally confessed, confirming the rumors that had unsettled the town. His confession prompted swift action from the local chiefs to avert any spiritual repercussions.
Speaking to Adom News, Nana Owusu Ansah, the Abusuapanin of Ankaasehene, said the traditional leaders carried out the necessary purification rites to cleanse both the man’s household and the entire community. The rituals, he explained, were essential to prevent misfortunes believed to follow such taboo acts.
The cleansing exercise involved the sacrifice of a sheep and the pouring of alcoholic drinks by the riverside to appease the gods and restore spiritual balance to the land.
Nana Owusu Ansah expressed deep concern over the matter, noting that the victim, the man’s sister-in-law, had just completed Junior High School. He condemned the man’s behavior, emphasizing that as a married man with five children, he should have known the moral and spiritual implications of his actions.
The traditional leader further urged community members to uphold discipline, moral integrity, and respect for family values to prevent such incidents from recurring in Ankaase.
