Kotoko Mourns Pooley. On Sunday, February 16, 2025, Asante Kotoko SC held a one-week tribute to honor their late supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong—known as Nana Pooley. The event took place at Heroes Park in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, and ran from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Officials from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and representatives from various Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs attended the tribute, as Kotoko mourns Pooley. Sadly, Pooley lost his life during a match on February 2, 2025, when he was fatally stabbed. Consequently, this tragic incident sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for improved security in Ghanaian football.

In addition, Kotoko’s management announced that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene and club bankroller, adopted Pooley’s children. Therefore, he enrolled them in his educational fund and promised full financial support for their schooling.

Following this tragedy, Asante Kotoko suspended all football activities until justice is served. Moreover, the club demanded an immediate overhaul of safety protocols. They urged the GFA to enforce stricter measures such as increased police presence, enhanced crowd control, and thorough searches for weapons at match venues.

Finally, the one-week tribute served as a powerful reminder of the need for unity and safety within the football community. Fans, players, and officials gathered to honor the memory of Nana Pooley.
