A shocking incident has been reported in Ghana’s 2024 general elections, where a young man was apprehended by the police for allegedly photographing his ballot paper in exchange for money. This incident raises concerns about the integrity of the electoral process and the potential for vote-buying.

According to reports, the Electoral Commission (EC) has warned against photographing ballot papers, stating that every ballot paper is unique and has a unique serial number. This makes it easy to identify and trace the ballot paper to the specific polling station.

In a similar incident, a temporary Electoral Commission (EC) official, Gerti Justice, was arrested in Bimbilla for allegedly taking a picture of his ballot paper. Justice admitted to the offence during police interrogation and was released after his name was removed from the list of officials on duty.

The police have urged the public to report any suspicious activity during the elections, and the EC has warned that anyone found guilty of electoral malpractice will face the full force of the law. As the elections continue, it remains to be seen how this incident will impact the outcome of the polls.
