Ghana’s Black Queens suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Morocco in an international friendly on Friday, February 21, 2025. The match took place at the Pere Jego Stadium in Casablanca. It was a crucial preparation for the upcoming TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Black Queens, led by new coach Kim Lars Björkegren, started the game strongly. In the second minute, Doris Boaduwaa fired a shot that narrowly missed the target. Soon after, winger Sherifa Sumaila sent in a dangerous cross, but Morocco’s goalkeeper Fatima Ezzahra reacted quickly to stop the attack.

Despite Ghana’s early pressure, the first half ended goalless. Ezzahra made several key saves, keeping Morocco in the game. The Black Queens dominated possession but struggled to break down the solid Moroccan defense.

The second half saw both teams battling in midfield. Ghana’s captain, Portia Boakye, led a well-organized defense. Goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan Findib made crucial saves to deny Morocco’s forwards.

The match remained level until stoppage time. In the 92nd minute, substitute Sakina Diki scored from a corner kick after Ghana’s defense failed to clear the ball. The late goal sealed Morocco’s victory.

Coach Björkegren praised his team’s effort despite the loss. “I’m really proud of the girls. They worked hard and defended well,” he said. “We’ve had very few training sessions together, but they showed great teamwork.”

The Black Queens will play another friendly against Raja Athletic on Monday, February 24, 2025. This match will help the team fine-tune their strategies ahead of WAFCON.

Fans can watch highlights of the match to see Ghana’s strong attacking moments, defensive resilience, and Morocco’s decisive goal. Despite the loss, the Black Queens showed promise and will continue to build on their performance.
