A powerful rainstorm, accompanied by fierce winds and intense lightning, swept through Accra late Tuesday afternoon, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

In Kokomlemle, the storm temporarily interrupted the transmission of multiple radio stations under the Multimedia Group. Meanwhile, at the A&C Mall in East Legon, a carport collapsed due to the storm’s force, resulting in damage to several vehicles.

Weather forecasts from the Ghana Meteorological Agency had issued prior warnings about the approaching storm. The day began with bright sunshine, but the skies quickly darkened as strong winds signaled the onset of the heavy downpour.

The storm also worsened the already congested rush-hour traffic, creating additional frustration for drivers and commuters. Many called on the police to step in and manage the chaotic road conditions.

According to meteorologists, Ghana’s weather tonight is expected to remain mostly cloudy, with some areas in the coastal, middle, transition, and northern sectors likely to experience localized thunderstorms with or without rain.

In Kotobabi, Accra New Town, a tree fell on a vehicle, trapping a man inside. Rescue efforts were launched to free him as residents witnessed the devastating effects of the storm.
