Authorities in Ghana have arrested a 22-year-old British woman, Browne-Frater Chyna Jada, for allegedly trying to export 17.92 kilograms of suspected cannabis. The drug haul has an estimated street value of $232,960.

An Accra Circuit Court remanded her into custody. She faces charges of attempting to export narcotic drugs, conspiracy to commit a crime, and unlawful possession of narcotics.

Presiding judge Susan Eduful did not accept her plea. Officials from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) await lab results from the Ghana Standards Authority to confirm the substance.

Chief Inspector Clemence Takyi, representing the prosecution, strongly opposed bail. He told the court that Browne-Frater posed a flight risk. He also said her accomplice, identified as “Joey,” has not yet been found.

Defense counsel applied for bail, stating that the accused had credible sureties and would not obstruct the investigation. The court denied the request.

NACOC officers stationed at Terminal 3 of Kotoka International Airport serve as key witnesses in the case. Browne-Frater claimed she believed the suitcase contained alcoholic drinks like “Kpoo Keke,” Alomo Bitters, and some spices.

She denies knowing anything about the cannabis. Officers sealed the package in her presence and sent it to the Ghana Standards Authority for analysis. Authorities continue to search for the missing accomplice.
