Law professor Appiagyei-Atua has advised Ghanaians to remain calm over the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. He clarified that the action is part of a legal process—not a dismissal.

During his appearance on Newsfile on JoyNews, Saturday, May 24, he explained that the suspension followed a prima facie case. The case stemmed from three separate petitions calling for the Chief Justice’s removal.

“There’s a wrong perception that this aims to remove the Chief Justice,” he said. “Some assume that suspension equals removal, but that’s not how the process works.”

Prof. Appiagyei-Atua expressed concern over misleading statements from some experienced lawyers. He noted that such remarks have intensified political reactions. “It’s worrying that seasoned lawyers are promoting this narrative, fueling political tension,” he added.

He reminded the public that the investigation could lead to two outcomes: either removal or exoneration. “There’s a clear process in place. The result could go either way,” he stated.

He urged both political followers and the public to avoid speculation. Instead, he called on everyone to let the legal process unfold without interference.
