Cocoa farmers in Ghana are set to receive higher earnings in the 2025/2026 season following a new cocoa price increase introduced by the government.

The Producer Price Regulatory Committee (PPRC) confirmed that the price of a 64kg bag of cocoa has risen from GH¢3,225 to GH¢3,625. Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson made the announcement on Thursday, stressing that the review aligns with President John Mahama’s commitment to rewarding farmers with a fair share of global market revenue.

Dr. Forson explained that the previous price represented about 70% of the international market value, based on earlier forecasts of cocoa prices and exchange rates. However, due to recent changes in global trends, the government decided to revise the price upward.

The adjustment takes effect on Friday, October 3, 2025, and guarantees farmers an additional GH¢400 for every 64kg bag sold.

He further assured that the government will continue to roll out policies and interventions to boost farmers’ welfare. In addition, children of cocoa farmers will soon benefit from scholarship opportunities for tertiary education.

The cocoa price increase is part of wider reforms aimed at securing better living conditions for farmers while strengthening Ghana’s cocoa industry in the face of global market fluctuations.
