A fierce rainstorm in Damongo, Savannah Region, has plunged several households into distress. During the incident, a middle-aged woman with a hearing impairment collapsed while harvesting rainwater. She got injured when an object struck her, and emergency responders quickly transported her to the Saint Anne Catholic Hospital in Damongo, West Gonja District.

The storm lasted less than an hour but wreaked havoc across the community. Notably, the four-bedroom self-contained house of former Member of Parliament for the Daboya Constituency, Baani Abudu Nelson, was torn apart. The destruction claimed essential items such as grains, refrigerators, television sets, beds, and important documents. Family members reported that the former MP was away when the disaster hit.

Adam Kipo, a family member, recounted, “We lost everything that is necessary to us because the MP isn’t here, and the house where we stay is gone. I was here with my sister around 4 p.m. when the rain started. Shortly after, it turned into a storm and removed our roof.” His sister, Abubakari Sadia, added, “Our food and everything are gone. The NADMO people came and left, but we don’t know where to pass the night.”

The storm struck around 4 p.m. on Monday, March 2025, affecting 16 individuals across multiple households. West Gonja Municipal NADMO officer Adam Bavug confirmed that five communities—Attributu, Alhassan-kura, Yagbon-kura, Zongo, and Abinga-kura—suffered extensive damage. The West Gonja Municipal Assembly office also experienced damage, with electricity wires cut and part of the roof removed.

Reports from Myjoyonline indicate that this rainstorm marks the second disaster in the area within a month. Several personal properties, including parked vehicles with smashed windscreens, also faced damage. NADMO officials will continue assessing the damage the following day.
