A fierce Dodowa Market fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, October 15, 2025, leaving several traders counting their losses. The fire spread quickly through the market, destroying many metal containers before firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) stopped it.

The fire started around 1:25 a.m. and moved rapidly, forcing nearby residents and traders to run for safety. Flames and thick smoke covered parts of the market, raising fears that the entire area might be lost.

Firefighters from the Katamanso Fire Station, led by ADO I Simon Sosu, arrived shortly after the alarm was raised. They received support from the Adenta and Madina Fire Stations. The team worked together to bring the fire under control by 3:06 a.m. and completely put it out by 4:51 a.m. Their quick response prevented a major disaster.

The Dodowa Market fire destroyed twelve metal containers and their contents. Six other containers were partially damaged. However, firefighters managed to save more than 50 market sheds and nearby structures. Their efforts reduced what could have been massive damage to the community.

The Ghana National Fire Service has started investigations to find out what caused the fire. The Service praised ACFO II Osmond Anum, Deputy Director of Operations, and the Tema Regional Fire Team for their professionalism. They also thanked other supporting agencies for helping to control the situation.
