Samuel Issah Abdulai, a 28-year-old driver, was arrested on his wedding day at Nkawie in the Ashanti Region over allegations of visa fraud. Presiding over the case at an Accra Circuit Court, Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah admitted the accused to bail in the sum of GH₵150,000 with three sureties, one to be justified. Additionally, the Court ordered Abdulai to report to the Police every two weeks.

Prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Daniel Danku, revealed that the complainants in the case are Ohenewa Sarah, Matilda Ayaaba, and Aisha Ahamed—traders and a businesswoman from Accra. They, along with other alleged victims, confronted Abdulai during his wedding ceremony at Nkawie and subsequently handed him over to the Police at Teshie. Investigations later revealed that the electronic visas he promised to secure were fake.

According to Chief Inspector Danku, Abdulai, who hails from Nkawie in the Ashanti Region, allegedly collected GH₵352,000 from the complainants under the pretext of procuring electronic visas for countries such as Mongolia, Georgia, Albania, and Malaysia. However, further checks conducted by the Immigration DFEC Unit confirmed that all the visas were fraudulent.

Facing three counts of defrauding by false pretenses and forgery of documents, Abdulai has pleaded not guilty. The prosecution remains determined to pursue the visa fraud charge vigorously, and additional evidence is being gathered as the investigation continues.

The incident has not only shocked the local community but has also highlighted the need for tighter scrutiny of visa procurement processes to prevent such fraud. Authorities are now calling for enhanced measures to detect and deter similar criminal activities in the future.
