John Abdulai Jinapor, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Yapei-Kusawgu constituency, has sounded an alarm over Ghana’s precarious energy situation, revealing that the country has only five hours’ worth of fuel left for power generation.

Speaking in an interview with Joy News, the energy expert and NDC MP expressed grave concerns about the looming energy crisis, attributing the situation to what he described as the outgoing Akufo-Addo administration’s failure to secure adequate fuel supplies.

“I have bad news for you. As of today, the confirmation we are receiving is that we have only five hours’ worth of fuel left,” Jinapor stated.

He further warned that the country’s fuel supply for power generation, including heavy fuel oil and diesel, is critically low and unlikely to last beyond two days.

“This administration has not placed any fuel orders as we speak,” he emphasized, criticizing the lack of proactive measures despite repeated warnings from the NDC transition team.

Jinapor made these remarks following the swearing-in ceremony of President John Mahama in Accra on January 7, urging immediate action to avert a deepening energy crisis.
