Dr. Othniel Ekow Kwainoe, the Member of Parliament for Ekumfi Constituency, has pledged a comprehensive overhaul of the education sector in his area as part of a broader commitment to stimulate socioeconomic development. Speaking during a durbar commemorating Ghana’s 68th Independence Day, held under the theme “Reflect, Review, and Reset Ghana – Transforming Education and Socioeconomic Development in Ekumfi,” the MP outlined a series of ambitious initiatives aimed at creating a model of educational excellence in his constituency.
Dr. Kwainoe emphasized the critical role that education plays in national progress and recalled the sacrifices made by Ghana’s founding fathers to inspire a renewed commitment toward community development. “Education is your passport to a better future,” he declared, urging students to take their studies seriously while calling on parents to actively support their children’s academic endeavors.
Among the key initiatives announced, the MP revealed plans to improve the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy to better serve students throughout Ekumfi. To address the challenge of attracting qualified educators to rural areas, he proposed a 20% incentive package for teachers posted in Ekumfi and similar communities, ensuring that every child has access to quality education regardless of their location.
Dr. Kwainoe also detailed infrastructure projects designed to enhance the educational environment. These include the construction of boarding facilities at Atta Mills and Akyin Senior High Schools, the provision of a new school bus for Atta Mills SHS, and the establishment of an Ekumfi TVET School focused on vocational training. Additionally, the MP plans to build teachers’ bungalows, introduce the Ekumfiman Teachers’ Award to recognize outstanding educators, and implement scholarship schemes for brilliant and physically challenged students.
Beyond education, Dr. Kwainoe outlined his vision for socioeconomic transformation in Ekumfi. He announced plans to generate job opportunities by fostering new industries, including the establishment of a salt factory and various agribusiness ventures. He further stressed the importance of skills development by proposing the creation of a TVET/STEM school to empower the youth with entrepreneurial and technical skills.
The MP’s comprehensive agenda underscores a commitment to not only upgrade educational facilities but also to drive broader economic progress in the region. “Transforming education is the cornerstone for social and economic progress,” Dr. Kwainoe noted. He encouraged all stakeholders—from government officials to community leaders and parents—to work together in turning Ekumfi into a beacon of progress and prosperity.
