Severe River Kusi flooding has once again cut off pupils of Badu Methodist ‘B’ Basic School in the Tain District of the Bono Region, leaving many stranded and unable to reach their classrooms.
The seasonal rains have caused the river to overflow its banks, blocking the only route that connects several communities to the school. On Tuesday morning, dozens of pupils were seen waiting helplessly at the riverbank, unable to cross the fast-flowing waters.
Residents told Adom News that this has become a recurring challenge every rainy season. According to them, the situation puts the lives of schoolchildren at serious risk as some attempt to cross the dangerous river in their determination to attend classes.
“This happens every year. We are pleading with the government to construct a bridge for our children. Their safety is at risk,” one resident lamented.
The community is appealing to the Tain District Assembly, traditional authorities, and benevolent individuals to assist in constructing a bridge over the River Kusi to ensure safe access for schoolchildren and residents.
Locals believe that resolving the River Kusi flooding problem will not only safeguard lives but also protect the future of education in the area. Without intervention, they fear the constant flooding could severely disrupt schooling and endanger young learners.
