Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has urged school authorities to respect students’ religious rights, ensuring they can practice their faith freely without restrictions. Speaking at the 2025 Eid-ul-Fitr prayers, Iddrisu emphasized that every Ghanaian child is entitled to rights and freedoms guaranteed by the constitution, including religious expression.
Iddrisu’s comments come after the Ghana Muslim Students Association expressed disappointment over a school’s decision to prevent Muslim students from celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, despite an official directive permitting them to do so.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting students’ constitutional rights, urging educational institutions to recognize and respect religious freedoms. He warned that schools denying students the right to practice their chosen religion would face sanctions.
This call to action promotes a culture of inclusivity and respect for religious diversity within educational institutions, ensuring that no student faces discrimination based on their beliefs.
