Ghana has taken a major step in its renewable energy expansion by commissioning a 50-megawatt solar power plant in Galgu, Yendi Municipality. The Bui Power Authority (BPA) and First Sky Limited partnered on this project to boost the country’s energy capacity and support sustainable development.

First Sky Limited financed the $59 million facility under an engineering, procurement, construction, and financing agreement. The BPA worked with the Grid Company Limited to integrate the plant into Ghana’s national grid. This project will enhance the country’s energy resilience and drive industrial growth in the region.

At the commissioning ceremony, BPA’s CEO, Samuel Kofi Ahiave Dzamesi, highlighted the plant’s significance. He stated that the initiative aligns with Ghana’s broader goal of adding 500 megawatts of solar power. This effort also supports the country’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.

The Galgu solar power plant will provide a reliable energy source and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Its clean energy contribution will help minimize environmental harm and ensure long-term sustainability.

BPA and First Sky Limited’s successful partnership demonstrates how public-private collaborations can drive national development. As Ghana continues investing in renewable energy, projects like this will shape the country’s energy future. The government remains committed to expanding solar power infrastructure, reinforcing its dedication to sustainability and economic progress.
