A 63-year-old Ghanaian woman, Hajia Yussif Hawabu, collapsed and died while performing Hajj in Makkah on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

She was taking part in the Tawaf, the ritual of walking around the Kaaba, at the Masjid Al-Haram. She had joined other Ghanaian pilgrims for the sacred rite when the incident occurred.

Hajia Hawabu was a resident of Tamale.

Ismaila Skones, Administrator of the Hajj Task Force of Ghana, confirmed her passing. He expressed condolences to her family and described the incident as tragic.

According to Skones, the task force has taken strong steps to protect the health and safety of all pilgrims. He added that the team will continue to provide support and monitor the wellbeing of Ghanaians throughout the pilgrimage.
