Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has projected that Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will grow by 4.4% in 2025. Speaking at the unveiling of the 2025 Budget in Parliament, Dr. Forson attributed this expected growth to the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline, enhanced revenue collection measures, and strategic investments in key sectors.

“Mr. Speaker, we anticipate an overall real GDP growth of 4.4% in 2025, with non-oil sectors expected to expand at a stronger rate of 5.3%,” Dr. Forson stated. The minister emphasized that these targets are part of a broader fiscal consolidation strategy designed to stabilize the economy amid current challenges such as high external debt, currency volatility, and inflationary pressures.

Dr. Forson noted that the growth projections are supported by improved productivity in critical sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, and services. The government’s efforts to reduce the budget deficit to 3.1% of GDP, down from 3.9% in 2024, are also expected to contribute positively to the economic outlook.

He further highlighted that these measures are being implemented in the wake of a gradual recovery from the economic impacts of previous crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic. “Our focus on fiscal discipline and targeted investments will pave the way for sustainable growth in 2025,” he added.

The Finance Minister’s optimistic projection comes as the government continues its efforts to restructure debt and stimulate economic activity. Market analysts have welcomed the forecast, though some caution that achieving the 4.4% target will require robust implementation of the planned fiscal reforms.
