Ghana’s Mission in the United States has urged citizens to strictly comply with US visa rules, cautioning that overstaying or abusing immigration privileges could jeopardize benefits for the wider Ghanaian community.

Speaking at the 40th anniversary celebration of the GaDangme Association in Washington, Deputy Head of Mission Jane Gasu Aheto, on behalf of Ghana’s Ambassador Victor Emmanuel Smith, reminded attendees of the importance of adhering to US immigration regulations.

“Any abuse of the recently restored visa privileges may have negative consequences for the broader Ghanaian community,” she warned.

Visa Restrictions Eased for Ghanaians

She revealed that restrictions on US visa issuance for Ghanaians have now been eased. Eligible applicants can once again apply for five-year multiple-entry visas, a significant improvement from the recent limitations, which confined most travelers to single-entry, three-month visas.

The Embassy reassured Ghanaians living in the United States of its continuous support but stressed that compliance with immigration laws is crucial to sustaining this restored arrangement.

Celebrating Unity Abroad

The event highlighted the importance of unity among Ghanaian associations abroad, with cultural displays and messages of solidarity. The Embassy emphasised that while cultural preservation remains key, following immigration laws is equally vital for strengthening Ghana’s image internationally and safeguarding travel opportunities for its citizens.
