President John Mahama has directed the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and the Gender Ministry to negotiate with banks. He wants banks to extend loan repayment terms for traders affected by the Adum Blue Light Arena fire.
The RCC is now compiling a list of traders with bank loans. Traders have complained that bankers pressure them for quick repayments. The President asked officials to gather detailed loan data so they can intervene and secure bank relief.
MASLOC’s CEO and the Gender Minister visited the RCC. The Gender Minister requested the gender-specific database, which officials will provide to her and MASLOC by Wednesday.
The National Disaster Management Organisation reported that the fire affected about 2,900 people. Around 1,500 people struggle to feed themselves. In response, the Interior Minister, Hon. Mubarik Muntaka, arranged for rice and oil deliveries. NADMO will continue to supply essential materials to those in need.
Dr. Amoakohene confirmed that the RCC registered almost all traders according to their business operations. This detailed data lets officials channel support to meet each trader’s specific needs. Additionally, eight people received psychological help at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
