Linda Akweley Ocloo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister and MP for Shai-Osudoku, has announced the successful restoration of streetlights across the capital. The initiative aimed to improve security and visibility by fixing faulty streetlights.
During a media briefing on Tuesday, she confirmed that authorities had completed the repairs. After assuming office, she gave Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) a strict 50-day deadline to restore all malfunctioning streetlights.
The project, launched on February 3, 2025, was part of her commitment to public infrastructure. After inspecting the completed work, she expressed satisfaction.
“I set a 50-day target, and we have achieved it. We repaired 129 streetlights, ensuring better security and visibility,” she said.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin had earlier questioned why the streetlights at Jubilee House were still off. In response, Ocloo assured that workers had restored them after eight years of malfunction.
She emphasized that this project supports President John Mahama’s “Resetting Agenda” to address infrastructure challenges.
Accompanied by media personnel, she toured various locations to inspect the work. She urged the public to protect the infrastructure, warning that anyone caught damaging streetlight cables would face legal action.
“We must stay vigilant. Those who tamper with streetlight infrastructure will face legal consequences, including imprisonment,” she cautioned.
Daniel Nkrumah, Coordinating Director for La Dade-Kotopon, pledged continuous maintenance.
“We will ensure that the streetlights remain functional to serve all residents,” he said.
Minister Ocloo reaffirmed her commitment to infrastructure improvements that enhance safety and quality of life in Greater Accra.
