New Management for Black Stars Announced

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has unveiled a new Management Committee for the Black Stars. This newly formed team aims to rejuvenate the Black Stars and restore their glory following recent setbacks. The restructuring comes after the dissolution of the previous committee and the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In a statement released on November 21, 2024, the GFA expressed gratitude to the outgoing committee members for their service. Moreover, it emphasized the need for a fresh approach. The Executive Council finalized the decision during a meeting on November 20, 2024. Specifically, they aimed to address the team’s recent shortcomings and prepare for future challenges, including the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Furthermore, the association issued a public apology to Ghanaian fans, acknowledging the disappointment from failing to qualify for AFCON 2025.

The newly constituted Management Committee includes experienced individuals with diverse expertise. Notably, the GFA carefully selected these members to ensure effective team management:

  • Dr. Randy Abbey: An Executive Council member of the GFA, Dr. Abbey will serve as Chairman. Consequently, he will lead engagements with the government and other stakeholders.
  • Mr. Stephen Appiah: A former Black Stars captain, Mr. Appiah will take on the role of Vice-Chairman. He will focus on player relations and support the Chairman in key functions.
  • Mr. Samuel Aboabire: Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association and an Executive Council member of the GFA, Mr. Aboabire will oversee operations and matchday activities. Additionally, he will coordinate smoothly with sponsors, partners, and collaborators.

  • Mr. Richard Nsenkyire: President of FC Samartex 1996, the 2023/2024 Ghana Premier League champions, Mr. Nsenkyire will manage special duties within the committee. As a result, his expertise will streamline the team’s management.

Plans and Goals for the Future of Black Stars

The GFA also plans to overhaul the technical team of the Black Stars. For instance, Communications Director Henry Asante Twum confirmed that they are implementing changes to enhance the team’s performance ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Moreover, the GFA has pledged to provide resources and support to the new Management Committee and technical team. The Black Stars will return to action in March 2025. Consequently, they aim to achieve success and meet the high expectations of Ghanaian fans.

Overall, the association remains optimistic that these changes will reinvigorate the Black Stars. They aim to bring pride back to the nation’s footballing legacy.
