President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to transform Ho Airport in the Volta Region into a first-class pilot training school, establishing it as a premier aviation hub in West Africa. This initiative forms part of his administration’s strategic vision to enhance Ghana’s aviation infrastructure and promote regional economic integration.

Speaking on the project, President Mahama emphasized the potential of Ho Airport to serve beyond commercial aviation, noting its capacity to become a world-class center for pilot education. This development, he stated, would position Ghana as a leader in aviation training, attracting aspiring pilots from across West Africa and beyond.

The proposed pilot training school is expected to include state-of-the-art lecture halls, simulation centers, computer and language laboratories, and modern conference facilities. These resources aim to provide comprehensive and internationally accredited training, ensuring that graduates are fully equipped to meet global aviation standards.

President Mahama highlighted that establishing such a training facility would reduce Ghana’s dependence on foreign institutions for pilot training. It would also create opportunities for cost savings for individuals and airlines seeking local training options. Additionally, the school is expected to generate significant employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth, particularly in the Volta Region.

The president further stated that this initiative aligns with his administration’s broader goals of innovation, capacity building, and positioning Ghana as a central hub for aviation excellence in Africa. By leveraging the existing infrastructure of Ho Airport, Ghana can set a benchmark for aviation education and create a lasting impact on the industry.

This vision underscores President Mahama’s commitment to fostering development across key sectors while ensuring Ghana maintains its competitive edge within the sub-region.
