The Bono East regional Minister-designate, Mr. Francis Owusu Antwi has pledged to install CCTV cameras in all major market centres in the region if given the mandate to serve as a regional Minister, in order to protect the markets from fire accidents that usually destroy properties and negatively affect the livelihoods of traders.
Over the years, fire outbreak in markets have been a major national challenge which successive Government’s have battled to fight, with the recent disasters occurring at the Kantamanto market, Kejetia market and the Techiman Central Market which is the largest “food basket” market in West Africa sub region after the “Alata line” area caught fire on the night of Sunday 12th January, 2025 resulting to the destruction of over hundred shops and loss of millions worth of items.
Answering questions during his vetting on Friday in Parliament when he appeared before the Appointments Committee, Francis Owusu Antwi who hails from Atebubu and the Bono East Regional Minister-designate promised to provide CCTV cameras, make sure the National Fire Service together with the Ghana Police Service will provide security in the various markets in order to protect it from arsons who may attempt to set our business places ablaze for barbaric reasons.

He concluded by expressing optimism that the NDC’s vision of establishing the Women’s Bank would come a long way to support Women in the Bono East Region especially Traders who are into buying of maize, yam and other food stuffs in order to improve their livelihoods.
