Techiman, Bono East Region – Kelvin Taylor, a renowned Ghanaian social commentator and National Democratic Congress (NDC) communicator currently based in the USA, has extended a helping hand to victims of the recent Techiman Market fire. Taylor donated GHS 100,000 to assist traders whose shops were destroyed in the devastating blaze.

The fire, which broke out in the early hours of January 12, 2025, at the Sunyani Station section of the market, wreaked havoc on the bustling trading hub. Witnesses reported that the inferno spread rapidly, fueled by the wooden structures and highly flammable materials stored in many shops. Approximately 700 shops were reduced to ashes, resulting in significant financial losses for traders. Goods worth millions of Ghana Cedis were destroyed, leaving many traders in despair.

Kelvin Taylor’s generous contribution was disbursed earlier today, January 15, 2025, to affected traders. The funds were shared based on the size and location of the shops, ensuring a fair distribution that reflected the extent of each trader’s losses. Representatives appointed to oversee the process worked closely with local authorities to ensure transparency.

In a statement, Kelvin Taylor expressed his heartfelt sympathy for the victims, noting that this donation was his way of showing solidarity. “Though I am far away in the United States, my heart is with my people in Ghana. I hope this support helps alleviate some of the pain and loss caused by this tragedy,” he said.

Beneficiaries of the donation were filled with gratitude, with many describing it as a much-needed relief during their time of hardship. “This money will go a long way in helping me start over. God bless Kelvin Taylor for thinking of us,” said one of the traders.

Local leaders have commended Kelvin Taylor’s thoughtful gesture and called on other individuals and organizations to follow his example in supporting the affected community as they begin the rebuilding process.
