The Kusaug Traditional Council, under the leadership of Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, has formally appealed to the government to consider creating a new region to serve communities within the Kusaug Traditional Area in the Upper East Region.
A delegation representing the Bawku Naba presented the petition to the Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Donatus Atanga, on Friday. The team was made up of Alhaji Azonko Mahamudu, Chief of the Gumbo Divisional Area; Alhaji Osman Kasim, Chief in Charge of Environment; and Mr. John Abugre, a member of the Kusaug Advisory Council.
Speaking during the presentation, Alhaji Azonko Mahamudu expressed hope that the appeal would be given serious consideration and forwarded to President John Dramani Mahama for review.
In response, Minister Akamugri Donatus Atanga assured the delegation that their petition would be delivered to the Presidency without delay. “We will ensure that the document reaches His Excellency the President. It is our hope that he will listen to your appeal,” he said.
The minister also emphasized that the creation of new regions serves as an important step toward enhancing decentralization and promoting development. He added that granting the Kusaug area a new administrative region could significantly boost local governance, resource allocation, and socio-economic progress.
