The government has introduced a new system to ensure the regular and timely trainee allowance payment to teacher and nursing trainees. President John Dramani Mahama announced that the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) would now handle these payments, ensuring consistency similar to government workers’ salaries.

Speaking at a durbar at the Jubilee Park in Tamale on Saturday as part of his Thank You Tour in the Northern Region, President Mahama emphasized that this move aims to eliminate delays that have previously affected the disbursement of trainee allowance payment.

Earlier in the day, the President paid a courtesy visit to Ya-Na Abukari II, the Overlord of Dagbon, at the Gbewaa Palace. During his address, he reiterated key initiatives outlined in the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, highlighting the allocation of resources to provide free sanitary pads for girls in schools to support their education during menstrual periods.

He also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to completing the Eastern Corridor Road, a crucial infrastructure project aimed at improving transportation across the country.

Expressing appreciation for the overwhelming support from the Northern Region in the December Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, President Mahama extended gratitude to the people for their endorsement of the National Democratic Congress.

Meanwhile, Northern Regional Minister Mr. Ali Adolf John urged the President to consider establishing a military barracks in Yendi to help address the recurring conflicts along the Eastern Corridor.
