President John Dramani Mahama has sent a firm warning to his ministers. He urged them to focus on solving problems and delivering real results. Speaking at the launch of a four-day Executive Leadership Programme on April 24, 2025, he said excuses will not be accepted.
“You were not appointed to occupy space,” he said. “You were appointed to solve problems.”
President Mahama reminded them that the people voted for change. Ministers must meet their expectations without fail. “The Ghanaian people expect us to deliver. And we must—not with excuses, but with results.”
He emphasized the need to drop old habits. “The business-as-usual approach will not work,” he added. “It is dead, and we must bury it once and for all.”
The programme, held in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), brings ministers, private sector leaders, and development partners together. It aims to shape a new governance mindset.
“This event is not just orientation,” Mahama said. “It is a chance to build a shared vision for responsible leadership.”
He stressed the urgency of action. “Young people are tired of waiting. Farmers and entrepreneurs want dignity and prosperity now.”
Mahama made it clear that failure has consequences. “If any of us fall short, I will not hesitate to act,” he warned.
This retreat is the first of its kind under his new administration. It marks the start of a leadership style focused on accountability and measurable results.
