President John Dramani Mahama has mourned the passing of Pope Francis with a heartfelt tribute. He described the Pontiff as “a good man, personable and humane, with a good soul.”

He wrote these words in the book of condolence opened to honour the Pope, who died recently. Mahama praised the Pope’s life of compassion and strong advocacy for the poor and marginalised.

“I pray that the Conclave be guided by God to choose a worthy successor,” Mahama said. “I know someone who will make a good Pope—our own Cardinal A.T.”

Earlier, Mahama shared a message of sympathy on social media. He extended condolences on behalf of his family and the people of Ghana to the Catholic Church worldwide.

“The world woke up to the sad news of Pope Francis’ passing,” he wrote. “On behalf of my family and the people of Ghana, I extend heartfelt condolences to the Roman Catholic Church and all Catholic faithful in Ghana during this time of profound grief.”

Mahama recalled meeting Pope Francis during a visit to the Vatican with his wife, Lordina Mahama. He described the encounter as inspiring and an honour to remember.

“His legacy of compassion, humility, and commitment to social justice will continue to inspire generations,” he said. “His leadership left a lasting impact.”
