President John Dramani Mahama unveiled a bold plan to revive Ghana’s cocoa sector by expanding cocoa farms by 200,000 hectares. He made the announcement during his Thank You tour in the Ahafo Region on May 31.

Addressing cocoa farmers and supporters, Mahama reaffirmed his government’s commitment to restoring the sector. He said his administration will provide incentives to encourage farmers to increase cocoa production.

“We are rebuilding the struggling cocoa industry. Our goal is to add 200,000 hectares of cocoa farms and raise farmers’ incomes,” he declared.

Mahama added that COCOBOD’s Chief Executive, Randy Abbey, promised a new producer price for cocoa in August. This price adjustment will benefit farmers.

He urged those without cocoa farms to find land and start planting cocoa.

Ghana’s cocoa industry has struggled due to lower yields, smuggling, and low producer prices. This expansion plan, with incentives, aims to solve these challenges. It will help restore confidence and boost the sector.
