President John Dramani Mahama is set to attend the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium today. Mahama visited the team’s training session on Wednesday, where he expressed his nervousness about watching live football matches, but assured the team of his support.
“I’ll take time off and watch the game myself. Even though my heart is not very good at watching soccer, I will brave it,” Mahama said. He also emphasized that the whole of Ghana will be behind the team, encouraging them to make the country proud.
Mahama’s attendance will mark a historic moment, as it will be the first time an incumbent president has attended a Black Stars match at the Accra Sports Stadium in recent years. The Black Stars are currently third in Group I with nine points and are looking to pick up maximum points against Chad and Madagascar in their upcoming matches.
The team will face Chad today at the Accra Sports Stadium, and then take on Madagascar on March 24 in Morocco. With Mahama’s support and the entire nation behind them, the Black Stars are poised to make a strong statement in their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
