President John Dramani Mahama is set to officially launch Africa’s largest Free Zones Industrial Park, a $1.5 billion project expected to create over 60,000 jobs and transform Ghana’s industrial landscape. The event will take place on October 21 at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
The ambitious initiative, known as the Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone (GCSEZ), spans 21,000 acres and represents a groundbreaking model for sustainable industrialization in Africa. It positions Gomoa Central as a key player in the continent’s economic transformation and a central pillar of Ghana’s emerging 24-hour economy vision.
The official unveiling will bring together high-profile dignitaries and investors, including Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, Goosie Tanoh, Presidential Advisor on the 24-hour economy initiative, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Association, traditional leaders, and major international investors. The event will be jointly led by Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, alongside President Mahama.
In a statement ahead of the launch, A Plus described the project as “a complete ecosystem that proves sustainability and profitability can thrive together.” He emphasized that the initiative goes beyond traditional industrial development, envisioning a future where economic growth aligns with environmental responsibility and digital innovation.
The Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone is built around five interconnected pillars: a 24-hour business district projected to host 10,000 businesses by 2032, an eco-recreational park expected to attract one million annual visitors by 2030, organic farming zones covering 2,100 acres, an eco-industrial hub accommodating 200 factories, and a renewable energy-powered crypto mining facility anticipated to generate over $100 million annually.
A Plus noted that every aspect of the project has been meticulously designed to function harmoniously. He said the renewable energy infrastructure will ensure some of the lowest operational costs in West Africa, while the zone’s strategic location provides direct access to major ports and the Lagos–Abidjan Corridor, a critical trade route in the region.
The Gomoa Central Development Trust, in partnership with the Ghana Free Zones Authority, has secured long-term industrial leases on fully documented land, removing legal bottlenecks that have hindered similar projects in the past.
A Plus concluded that the initiative aims to demonstrate Ghana’s capacity to lead Africa into “a new era of green industrialisation, digital innovation, and inclusive prosperity.” The pre-launch event at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel will offer investors and stakeholders exclusive insight into the park’s infrastructure, investment opportunities, and long-term vision.
