President John Dramani Mahama visited the Adum Market in Kumasi’s Central Business District today, following a devastating fire outbreak that ravaged several shops. The President’s visit aimed to sympathize with the affected traders, offer support, and gather firsthand information on the extent of the damage.
Upon arrival, Mahama expressed sorrow over the loss of property and pledged government assistance to the fire victims. He acknowledged the challenges faced by firefighters in accessing the scene due to the market’s layout and emphasized the need to learn from this incident, as most markets in Ghana face similar issues.
The President also cautioned against using gas cylinders in the market, citing the risk of explosions. “If you want to eat, it’s best to buy food or cook from home,” he advised.
Mahama was accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Volta Regional Minister James Gunu, and other officials. The government has instructed NADMO to provide support to the affected traders, with further assistance to be discussed with the Chief of Staff.
