President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s trade infrastructure development by prioritizing the construction of essential bridges. These projects aim to enhance connectivity, boost trade, and facilitate economic growth across the country.

Addressing a gathering in Tamale on Saturday, 22nd March, during his Thank You Tour, President Mahama emphasized the critical role of trade infrastructure development in supporting commerce and regional integration. He assured residents of the Northern Region and beyond that his administration is dedicated to eliminating longstanding transportation barriers that hinder economic activities.

“Our plan is to accelerate the construction of vital bridges that will improve accessibility and promote trade. Among these projects are the White Volta bridge at Nawuni on the Tamale-Mankarigu-Yagaba road and the White Volta bridge on the Junayili-Pusiga road,” he stated.

President Mahama highlighted that these infrastructure developments would not only link remote communities to major economic hubs but also stimulate agricultural and commercial activities.

Further elaborating on his administration’s vision, he revealed plans to conduct feasibility studies for a Yendi bypass, a strategic initiative aimed at easing congestion, improving urban mobility, and enhancing logistics for businesses in the region.

Additionally, the President announced the planned construction of the Oti River bridge at Saboba and the Bimbilla-Nakpali bridge on the White Volta. He reiterated that these projects form a broader national strategy to modernize Ghana’s trade infrastructure development, ensuring efficient connectivity to support economic development.
