Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia led a delegation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the Mampong Traditional Council to offer condolences on the passing of Daasebre Nana Osei Bonsu II, the Paramount Chief of the Mampong Traditional Area. The revered traditional leader passed away at 86 years old, with the news emerging on social media on April 28, 2025.

Condolence Visit
On Friday, May 2, 2025, Dr. Bawumia, accompanied by NPP members Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, John Ntim Fordjour, and Nana Akomeah, visited the Asante Mampong Chief’s Palace to express sympathy to the traditional council during this period of mourning. The delegation met with Mamponghemaa Nana Agyakoma Difie II and other members of the Mampong Traditional Council.

Tribute to the Late Mamponghene
Dr. Bawumia described the late chief as a father figure and praised his wisdom, diplomacy, and dedication to developing his people and strengthening Ghana’s chieftaincy institution. He also visited the wife of Daasebre Nana Osei Bonsu II to express his deepest condolences and signed the book of condolence in honor of the late Mamponghene.

Legacy of Daasebre Nana Osei Bonsu II
The late chief served as Vice President of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs and occupied the prestigious Silver Stool, making him second in hierarchy to the Asantehene. Daasebre Nana Osei Bonsu II was widely respected for his non-discriminatory nature and commitment to the development of Mampong and the Asante Kingdom.

Dr. Bawumia’s Message
In a social media post, Dr. Bawumia expressed his sympathies to the people of Asante Mampong, stating, “My sympathies go to Nananom and all the people of Asante Mampong.” The former Vice President’s visit demonstrates his respect for the traditional leadership and the late chief’s legacy.
