The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 46-year-old man, Abi Baragon, for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend multiple times after she reportedly refused his marriage proposal.

The shocking incident, which occurred in June 2025, gained nationwide attention after a disturbing video surfaced on social media showing the victim bleeding and pleading for help following the brutal attack.

According to police reports, preliminary investigations revealed that the violent outburst was allegedly triggered when the woman discovered that Baragon was already married with four children and rejected his proposal to marry her.

Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect voluntarily confessed to using bottles and stabbing the victim during an argument.

“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to using bottles and stabbing the victim,” Iringe-Koko disclosed.

Authorities say the victim is currently receiving intensive medical care, while detectives continue an in-depth investigation to determine all factors surrounding the attack.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, commended officers for their swift response and thanked members of the public for providing crucial information that led to the suspect’s capture.

He assured residents that the Command remains fully committed to ensuring justice for victims of violence, stressing that gender-based and domestic assaults will be thoroughly prosecuted.

The Rivers State Police Command reiterated its warning against all forms of domestic abuse, urging the public to report suspicious activities and violent behavior to the nearest police station.
