The lawyer representing Mildred Donkor, the discharged third accused in the ongoing Adu-Boahene trial, has firmly stated that his client had no involvement in the alleged theft and money laundering case linked to former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene.

Counsel Elikplim Agbemava made the clarification after the Accra High Court on Friday, October 17, dismissed an application filed by the defence seeking to stay the proceedings. He emphasized that the specific charges before the court make it evident that Ms. Donkor was not among the main individuals accused of planning or benefiting from the alleged financial crimes.

According to Mr. Agbemava, his client’s name only appears in one of the later counts of the charge sheet, which clearly indicates that she was not part of any conspiracy to commit the alleged offences.

“If you examine the charges closely, you’ll see that my client was not named among those accused of stealing. Her name only appears in count 10 or 11, showing she had no role in any decision-making process,” he explained after the court proceedings.

In a significant development, the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has withdrawn all charges against Ms. Donkor under Section 59 of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960 (Act 30). This action followed her agreement to testify for the prosecution in the Adu-Boahene trial.

A formal notice signed by Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai and filed at the High Court confirmed that the state had discontinued the case against her. With this decision, Ms. Donkor has been officially discharged and will now serve as a prosecution witness in the ongoing trial involving Kwabena Adu-Boahene (1st Accused), Angela Adjei Boateng (2nd Accused), and Advantage Solutions Limited (4th Accused).

In her witness statement, Ms. Donkor detailed her professional relationship with the first and second accused persons, noting that she had known them for years through the Cedar Mountain Assemblies of God Church in East Legon, Accra.

The case, which revolves around allegations of theft and money laundering, remains before the Accra High Court as the trial continues against the remaining accused individuals.
