The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), welcomed the Ambassador of Japan to Ghana, H.E. Hiroshi Yoshimoto to the Ministry on 26th February, 2025.
During the meeting, Hon. Ablakwa expressed gratitude for Japan’s longstanding support for Ghana’s developmental agenda. He particularly acknowledged the signing of the Project for the Stabilization of Power Supply in Tamale.
The discussions also highlighted several key development projects, such as:
▪ The Project for Enhancing Rice Seed Production Capacity;
▪ The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarships; and
▪ The Project for The Development of Integrated Sediment and Environmental Management Aimed at Sustainable Conservation, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Livelihood Improvements in Coastal Areas.
As part of discussions on infrastructure development, both sides deliberated the addition of the Volivo Bridge to Ghana’s ongoing national projects.
H.E. Yoshimoto announced a 40% increase in funding for the Ghana-Japan Education Partnership, raising the total to $32 million and encouraged Ghana to take advantage of the fund.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong and growing partnership between Ghana and Japan, highlighting shared priorities in economic development, infrastructure, education, and humanitarian cooperation. Both parties expressed optimism about deepening their collaboration for mutual benefit.
