In a bold move to demand electoral accountability, the Minority in Parliament on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, staged a march to the Ghana Police Service headquarters, protesting the prolonged delay in declaring the Ablekuma North parliamentary election results.

Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh, addressing the media, called on the Ghana Police Service to ensure adequate protection for officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) so they can finalize and announce the long-awaited results.

The Minority Caucus also submitted a formal petition, urging immediate action from both the EC and the police. They stressed that the ongoing delay not only jeopardizes Ghana’s democratic values but also violates the voting rights of the people of Ablekuma North.

Nearly six months have passed since the December 7, 2024, general elections, yet the parliamentary results for Ablekuma North remain officially unannounced—despite full voter participation.

Both candidates—Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—have publicly declared themselves winners.

The process of result collation has been deeply troubled by incidents of violence, missing pink sheets, and legal complications. Despite several attempts to resolve the impasse, the final outcome remains elusive.

The Minority insists that swift resolution is crucial to maintaining electoral integrity and public trust in democratic processes.
