The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has paid glowing tribute to the late former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as an epitome of strength, courage, and the resilience of Ghanaian women.

In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on Thursday, October 23, 2025, the NPP expressed deep sorrow over her passing. The party said Ghana had lost a national icon whose lifelong dedication transformed women’s empowerment and social development.

“The late Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings, Founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement and Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady, embodied the strength and resilience of Ghanaian women, especially in political leadership and socio-economic advocacy,” the statement noted.

The NPP commended Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings for her remarkable contributions toward gender equality and for championing the welfare of women and children.

Her influence, the party emphasized, was instrumental in shaping critical national reforms such as the Intestate Succession Law (PNDCL 111), which protects inheritance rights for women and children. She also played a vital role in embedding gender equality provisions within Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.

Describing her as “a true trailblazer in women’s emancipation,” the NPP said her legacy continues to inspire future generations of Ghanaian women.

The party added that Ghana has lost “a mother and a political pioneer” whose leadership, compassion, and determination left an enduring mark on the nation’s political and social history.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was widely celebrated for her unwavering commitment to women’s empowerment and her significant role in shaping Ghana’s democratic and social transformation.
