NIB Interrogates Napo Over Past Role at Education Ministry

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known widely as Napo, has confirmed that the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) is interrogating him regarding his time at the Ministry of Education. He is the Vice Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections.

In a viral interview with 1957, Napo revealed that he has been attending NIB sessions to assist with investigations. The most recent session occurred on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

“Many people don’t know that I’ve been invited by the NIB to answer questions about my time at the Ministry. I had no reason to refuse,” he said.

Dr. Prempeh served as Education Minister from January 2017 to January 2021 during President Nana Akufo-Addo’s first term. Reflecting on that period, he admitted he doesn’t recall every detail.

“I’ve forgotten some issues. I can’t remember everything from that time. That’s why we rely on technocrats and administrators to keep records and support the ministry’s operations,” he explained.

He urged politicians in office to act responsibly, noting that accountability is essential in leadership.

“Those in power must use their authority wisely. When asked to account, they should be able to explain their actions clearly,” he advised.

The NIB has not released any official statement about the investigations. However, other NPP members, including Professor Ameyaw Ekumfi and Kwaku Ohene Gyan, former Deputy Director of Operations at the National Service Authority, have also been called for questioning.
