The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed profound grief over the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a woman of extraordinary impact whose legacy shaped Ghana’s political and social landscape.

In a heartfelt statement issued by the party, the NDC celebrated her as a trailblazer in women’s empowerment, noting that her visionary leadership through the 31st December Women’s Movement transformed the lives of countless women and children across the nation.

“Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings was a remarkable woman whose lifelong dedication to the empowerment of women and children has left an indelible mark on Ghana’s history,” the statement said.

The NDC also acknowledged Nana Konadu’s pivotal role in the founding of the party, emphasizing her influence in shaping its early ideals, direction, and social justice principles.

Although she later went on to establish another political organization, the statement underscored that her contributions to the NDC’s formation and growth remain deeply respected.

Recalling a symbolic gesture earlier this year, the party noted that during its June 22, 2025 anniversary celebration, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was officially recognized as the Founding Mother of the NDC — a moment that reaffirmed the party’s enduring appreciation for her service and sacrifice.

The NDC described her passing as a monumental loss to Ghana, urging citizens to celebrate her enduring legacy of courage, advocacy, and leadership.
