Tragedy struck in Nungua, Accra, during the enskinment ceremony of Lawrencia Naa Borley Nelson, also known as Naa Gamu, the newly appointed Queen of the Ga-Adangme Muslim Union (Nungua West). The celebratory event turned horrific when a musketry fired during the ceremony struck Naa Gamu in the thigh, ultimately leading to her death.

Naa Gamu and her husband were being enskinned as queen and chief of the Ga-Adangme Muslim Union’s Nungua West branch when the incident occurred. While the motive behind the gunshot remains unclear, a suspect has been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.

Relatives of the deceased are suspecting foul play, questioning the circumstances of the shooting. Naa Gamu’s uncle, Martison Quaye, expressed concerns about the incident, stating that guns are supposed to be fired into the sky during such ceremonies, not at people. Her brother, Nii Bortey Agbli, blamed a lack of timely medical care for her death, citing that they were turned away from two medical facilities before receiving treatment.

The shooting has sent shockwaves through the Nungua community, which is now in mourning. Many are calling for stricter security measures at traditional ceremonies to prevent such incidents in the future.
