Ghana’s anti-corruption collaboration took a step forward as Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng met with CHRAJ Commissioner Dr. Joseph Akanjolenur Whittal on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. The visit aimed to build stronger ties between the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
Mr. Agyebeng called for greater coordination between both agencies. He warned that poor cooperation allows corrupt individuals to escape justice. “We must work together to close these gaps and show that impunity will not be tolerated,” he stressed.
He praised CHRAJ for leading efforts in human rights, administrative justice, and anti-corruption. He highlighted its referrals of major cases, including investigations into the former Public Procurement Authority head and the National Cathedral project.
To improve enforcement reach, Mr. Agyebeng announced plans to open OSP offices in Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale. He said CHRAJ’s national footprint makes it a vital partner in these efforts.
Dr. Whittal welcomed the visit and emphasized the value of inter-agency cooperation. He supported creating a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to guide future joint work. He also reaffirmed CHRAJ’s commitment to the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP).
Both leaders agreed to work closely to eliminate blind spots and ensure no corrupt actors go unpunished.
Mr. Agyebeng attended the meeting with Mr. Samuel Appiah Darko, Director of Strategy, Research, and Communication at the OSP. Dr. Whittal was joined by Deputy Commissioners Mercy Larbi and Benjamin Barfo-Bonney, along with senior CHRAJ officials.
